Well, let's get the completely and totally obvious question out of the way first, this is a reading course and Dr. Dana has been telling us from day one that the more we read, the better we become at it, the more we will like it.
I am sure you are looking for a more in depth answer however, and here is mine: I am reading Freeom Writers and it is really inspiring me to want to teach to the best of my abilities, not that I didn't want to before, this is just inspiring me to think outside of the box!. Ms. Gruwell had to overcome so many road blocks, it is scary, but she did it because she wanted nothing more than to give the kids a safe environment in which to grow and be nurtured. I doubt I will ever reach as many kids as she has, but I am more than willing to try now. It really is a inspiring book that I would reccommend to any teacher, young or old who is looking for a reason to go on.
Dr. Dana has also told us from day one that we need to come to a complete overall understanding of what we read because if we can't get something positive out of the book, we have failed to really read it for what it is worth. I feel that this is the reason behind the project for the book, we are reading for content and understanding and then coming up with a fun and inventive project to go along with the book, much like how we will one day to as teachers.

I would have to agree that we definitly read for understanding and content. If a student read a book and doesn't understand what they are reading then there i really no point to reading because no comprehension is taking place. Also the projects let creativity flow and show that we comprehended the book in a deeper understanding.
I feel the same way. As future educators it is important for use to read and understand the major concepts of the book. This also goes hand in hand with the idea of use making out own projects. It gives us a good idea of coming up with a sample activity that we can use in our own class. Not only can we use these ideas we can also generate a rubric for the project since we have created it ourselves. It also gives some of use a reason to read since we don’t do it to often/
I agree with you. As soon to be teachers we need to try out lessons and projects, especially ones which creatively show comprehension rather than the standard book report. And obviously this Freedom Writers is a very inspiring book for future teachers as well. I'm enjoying reading it and probably would not have read it if not for this class.
I definitely agree with you. It is very important to comprehend what you are reading, and through this project we can have fun and be create. We can also branch off from these projects and come up with similar creative and entertaining projects for our own future classrooms.
